If your filling falls out, there’s no need to panic, but you should call your dentist — even if you feel no pain. It’s not an emergency, but it’s not something you want to ignore either. That exposed pocket can catch food and other debris, leading to decay. It’s also an exposed tooth that will erode over time. If left too long, you might need a root canal. It might even end up splintering the tooth. We’ll get you in for an appointment as soon as we can. We often set aside time for emergency appointments and can work you in. Our office will probably do an X-ray and work out a treatment plan. We may discuss filling options if the tooth is restorable. And if you do experience pain after you call us, you could treat it with over the counter pain medications. Peppermint tea and clove oil may also be helpful.
