When is Cincinnati Broken Tooth Extraction Necessary?
Though we try to preserve all of your teeth whenever possible, sadly not every tooth can always be saved. Sometimes a tooth must be removed due to trauma, overcrowding, or disease. Some tooth removal is even expected. (Just whoever thought of calling them “wisdom teeth” anyway?) But if a tooth cannot be repaired with a crown or a filling due to accident or decay, the broken tooth may need to be extracted. Our Cincinnati doctors see this from time to time. Sometimes the tooth cannot be supported because periodontal disease has worn away the bone. There are generally two types of extractions: simple and surgical. Simple is when the tooth is above the gum line and can be removed by forceps. Surgical extractions are more invasive and surprisingly more common. They do require stitches and more extensive pain medication after the operation.
