The Natural Benefits of Salt Water Rinses to Cincinnati Dental Care
What’s a simple preventative care technique that can dramatically improve your dental health? We often tell our Cincinnati patients to rinse with salt water. It can be especially helpful for a sore throat, inflamed gums, or if you’ve recently had a dental procedure. Salt will temporarily increase the pH balance of your mouth. It creates an alkaline environment that kills bacteria. You can make a solution by mixing a ½ a teaspoon of salt to a cup of warm water, Rinse for about a minute and then spit. Do not swallow the mixture. Do 2 to 3 times a week. Rinsing with salt water more often than that can damage your teeth. If you do not like the taste of the salt, consider rinsing with an over-the-counter mouth rinse. Both can be very beneficial in eliminating the germs that cause bad breath, gingivitis, and gum disease.
