Most people don’t change their toothbrush often enough. They’ll get their haircut twice a month, but only buy a new toothbrush once a year, if that. And the sad thing is that means they probably aren’t doing a good enough job brushing their teeth. The bristles just aren’t very effective.
The best dentists in Cincinnati will always stress replacing your toothbrush every three months. That’s assuming you brush twice a day, of course. If you don’t, your toothbrush might still be in fine shape, but your teeth are rotting inside your head.
The Spot Check Test
Take a look at your toothbrush. Are the bristles standing straight up? Then it’s in good shape. If they start to bend or point in a diagonal shape, it’s time to switch out the brush. It just isn’t cleaning your teeth as effectively.
Try running your tongue over your teeth after you brush. Does it feel clean and slippery? If not, your toothbrush is probably too old.
Most of us don’t stick to the 3-month rule because we forget. The trick is to buy multi packs of toothbrushes so there’s always a backup ready when you notice the bristles start to bend.
