If you break or lose a filling, you should call our Cincinnati dental office as soon as possible. It’s rarely an emergency, but tell that to the raw and exposed tooth. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt. Sometimes you’ll feel uncomfortable or in excruciating pain. We’ll get you in as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can try applying a small amount of clove oil to the sensitive area with a cotton swab. You can get clove oil in most drug stores or even in the baking section of the grocery store. You might also apply dental cement directly to the damaged area to seal it until we see you. This can provide immediate relief to an exposed area. Restoring the filling will depend on how or why it came out in the first place. Decay may have damaged the tooth, so most likely your dentist will need to prepare the tooth again.
